Svenskjävlar! (Swedish Bastards)
this isn't salty, it's INSANELY weirdly INTENSELY salty. What's up Swedes? Does this have something to do with being in cold weather a big part of the year? They were inedible for me, and even after I washed off the salt coating, I couldn't get to the licorice inside because had already invaded. It was a no go for me
Basically Häxvrål coated in weapons grade salmiak salt. Perfect for expats wasting away in licorice-less countries!
I love Swedish licorice and Turkish Pepper (the Smålänningar were a knock out). My family loves these Svenskjävlar, as well. When I first ate one, I actually cursed so I can tell where the name originates!
For me, there is something off about them though. I don’t know if I need more of a sour hit, like what they put on Warhead candies to make them sour. Maybe they’re just not sweet enough. Or, perhaps, there is just too much sodium chloride and not enough ammonium chloride. Basically these tastes a bit too much like pure table salt. I want the burn and the chemical violence dancing on my palette, but not just salt. That can be a bit nauseating.
Still top of the line, phenomenal quality, and disappearing fast as I continue to savor it. It is definitely a substantial piece of candy, with one piece being pretty filling.
Despite my critical nitpicking, I bought lesser Swedish licorice and mixed it in the jar to use more of the salt since the pieces are literally swimming in salt powder so there’s that, too.
Oof! I love Salmiakki but these were too much for me! I had to rinse with water, dry, and then sprinkle some sugar on them to make them palatable. If you like strong flavors you will love these. If not, I recommend trying the Fucking Fabulous ones. Loved those!! 🥰
I love salty licorice but this was so salty it actually hurt your mouth. I had to rinse of each piece as it was layered with salt that contributed to the 2000mg of salt per 2 pieces.! The flavor of the licorice was really good ( once the salt was funded off) Due to the humidity during shipment, the salt had gotten a little 'wet' this could probably be solved by adding drying pack in the can.
